The Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies (OCBS), in collaboration with the Dhammachai International Research Institute (DIRI), invites you to the OCBS DIRI Series academic lectures for Hilary Term 2025. The details are as follows:

Lecture Schedule:

  1. February 26, 2025, at 16:00 GMT
    • Topic: “Editing Jātakas in the 15th Century: Jātakavisodhana by Ariyavaṁsa and Premodern Pali Philology”
    • Speaker: Dr. Aleix Ruiz Falqués
    • Summary: This lecture will explore the early textual revision methods of Pali manuscripts, focusing on the work of Ariyavaṁsa of Sagaing (Burma) in the 15th century.
  2. March 5, 2025, at 16:00 GMT
    • Topic: “Gender and Buddhist Doctrine”
    • Speaker: Professor Alice Collett (University of St. Andrews)
    • Summary: This lecture will examine gender issues in the context of Buddhist doctrine, referencing the speaker’s book I Hear Her Words: An Introduction to Women in Buddhism.
  3. March 12, 2025, at 16:00 GMT
    • Topic: “Anuruddha and Mahākaccāna: Tracing Two Early Buddhist Lineages”
    • Speaker: Dr. Alexander Wynne
    • Summary: This lecture will explore the roles and significance of Anuruddha and Mahākaccāna in the Pali Canon and the dissemination of their teachings.
